​Statement on Deportation
​
For Difficult Times, Courageous Choice 

At the meeting of the Passionist Inter-provincial Councils, held at Holy Name Retreat Center, Houston, Texas, from February 20-24, 2017, we have had the opportunity to examine more closely the way that our immigrant brothers and sisters suffer the annihilating effects of present policies. We recognize that there are millions of persons, not a faceless mass, but real men and women, especially young adults, who are suffering under deportation, and other millions who because they are Hispanic and Catholic in the U.S.A., are in subsistence circumstances, living in fear and uncertainty for their futures. 

We wish to express our admiration of them, and our solidarity with all of you who must daily face conditions which are overwhelming and exhausting as you respond to the challenges and demands placed on them by a society which has become especially dehumanizing as it disposes of them as though they were social waste.  

We admire and appreciate all of the work which they have contributed. We believe that in the face of these problems, THE CROSS IS A LIBERATING FORCE which “breaks down every wall of separation (Eph 2:14).” Weakness indeed becomes the source of hope. 

As Passionist Family, we are convinced of our duty to becoming engaged with our brothers and sisters, whether immigrants or those who work on their behalf, where we live and work. 
May our Mother of Holy Hope, who, from the time of the founding of our Congregations and Institute, has accompanied us, now inspire us in this commitment.

A Tiempos Difíciles, Opciones Valientes  
En la reunión del Intercouncil Pasionista, celebrada en la Casa de Retiros Holy Name, Houston, Texas, los días del 20 al 24 de Febrero del 2017, hemos tenido la oportunidad de acercarnos a la realidad tan desgarradora de nuestros hermanos y hermanas migrantes. Millones de personas que tienen rostros que sufren la deportación y otros millones que por ser hispanos y catolicos, en especial los jovenes adultos en EE.UU., están en la situación de sobrevivencia, temor, e incertidumbre hacía el futuro. 

Queremos expresar nuestra admiración, solidaridad, y cercanía a todos y todas uds. que están afrontando situaciones demandantes y desgastantes para responder a los desafíos y exigencias de esta realidad que se ha desbordado en la deshumanización, en una sociedad de descarte tan indiferente a este contexto. 
Admiramos y valoramos todo el trabajo que han venido realizando, reconocemos que ante esta problemática LA CRUZ COMO FUERZA LIBERADORA “derriba todo muro de separación (Ef 2:14),” y así la fragilidad se convierte en fuente de esperanza.

Nos animamos como familia pasionista en el deber de involucrarnos desde nuestras trincheras con nuestros hermanos y hermanas migrantes y quienes trabajan a favor de ellos.

Que la Madre de la Santa Esperanza que desde el inicio de nuestras Congregaciones e Instituto nos ha venido acompañando, nos inspire en este compromiso.
