In 2022, Pope Francis said that throwing away plastic in the ocean is criminal. "This kills biodiversity, the Earth, everything,” Pope Francis said. “If things don’t change, our grandchildren…will have to live in an uninhabitable world within 30 years.” It is estimated that 75 to 199 million tons of plastic waste are already in our oceans, with more every day. Oceans of Plastic is raising awareness, inspiring change, and promoting sustainable solutions to combat plastic waste in marine ecosystems. One solution is to give up single use plastics like water bottles, straws, and plastic bags.
