Passionist work in Kenya

The Passionist Earth and Spirit Center in Louisville, KY has organized and sponsored trips to India and Africa as a way to experience the culture, meet people and learn about Passionist work in these areas.

​Participants in the Africa trip have been especially moved to continue their connection with their experiences.  A group, working with Fr. Joe Mitchell CP, from the Earth and Spirit Center, have developed several opportunities to offer concrete assistance to needy children in Africa.

The Caring for the Children of Earth Campaign includes:

• The Nairobi Student Fund.  Provides assistance for families in Kenya who need money to help with their children's tuition fees, school supplies and uniforms.
• The Hope Scholarship.  Provides college grants to disadvantaged students in Kenya.  With Passionist partners, promising secondary students are identified who are eager to become professionals: teachers, nurses, doctors, political leaders or engineers.  The grants provide four years of support.
• The Passionist Orphanage in Tonga.  This program cares for abandoned children in the Kenyan village of Tonga.  The Passionist orphanage there cares for children who have lost their parents to AIDS, live in extreme poverty or have been abandoned.
