As Passionists, we have an active ministry in Haiti, St. Luke Foundation for Haiti, so we are particularly concerned about the worsening humanitarian situation. The people of Haiti continue to suffer from a crisis of gang violence and hunger, fueled by weapons and ammunition trafficked from the US. 

The flow of illegal weapons not only allows gangs to terrorize communities, but undermines stabilization efforts in Haiti such as long-term governance solutions and security reforms.

Join us in taking action to curtail the power of Haiti's gangs by urging your representative to support the Haiti Criminal Collusion Transparency Act, which directs sanctions at Haiti's political and economic elites who finance gangs and profit from gang violence.​

As an affiliate of the Passionists of North American, a Catholic religious order with active ministry in Haiti, this is a particularly compelling concern.

The humanitarian situation in Haiti continues to worsen as its people suffer from a crisis of gang violence and hunger, fueled by weapons and ammunition trafficked from the US. The flow of illegal weapons not only allows gangs to terrorize communities but also undermines stabilization efforts in Haiti such as long-term governance solutions and security reforms. Supporting this bill is a concrete step toward saving lives and promoting long-term peace in Haiti. It also addresses one of the root causes of migration, an important issue to many voters. 

This bipartisan legislation is a fundamental step towards diminishing the power of Haiti's criminal gangs and addressing the catastrophic human rights situation. Directing sanctions on Haiti's political and economic elites who support gangs cuts-off the financing for weapons used to decimate communities and perpetuate widespread violence. Reducing the flow of illegal weapons helps protect civilians and creates space for long-term reform. 

The people of Haiti deserve to live in peace. Peace is achievable if we take action to reduce the flow of US-origin weapons of war used to terrorize and control Haitians.
