So, there must be lots of dopamine floating around this week amidst Amazon Prime Days as we scoop up all the “deals”. As Christians and as Passionists, living in a global economy, we are called to ask some questions before we purchase. These questions steer us into right relationship with other humans and our planet, which is the basis of morality. Is this “good deal” a “good deal” for the workers who produced and delivered the product? What is the true human and environmental cost of the product? Was an ecosystem or a community compromised or destroyed to make it available? Diving deeper and doing our homework before purchasing may not be as convenient or immediately satisfying as pushing the “Buy Now” button; but it puts us in solidarity with workers around the world, who are often the “little ones” so loved by Jesus.
